Raised in Lawrence, Bud fell in love with the guitar on his 14th birthday, when he was handed his father’s guitar and was told to “make it talk.” After learning Blackbird by the Beatles, Bud expanded his proficiency to multiple instruments in a range of styles. He attributes his progress to excellent teachers, most of whom he studied with right here at Americana Music Academy.
Bud has performed for a variety of audiences, including nursing homes, fundraisers, farmer’s markets, street corners, and a European river cruise. He has provided music therapy for patients in psychiatric crisis at LMH Health and facilitated drum circles for residents of transitional housing through Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center. He is currently bass player for the cafe jazz-Americana group Pickett & Jeans.
Bud holds degrees in Environmental Studies and business from KU, and now serves as AMA’s treasurer. In his work life, he has worn many hats, including whitewater raft guide, mental health counselor, corporate salesman, and Uber driver. Bud looks forward to using his varied experiences to help students from all walks of life discover the joy of music-making.
Bud understands that everyone’s desires, goals, and background are unique. He offers a free half-hour trial lesson/consultation to answer any questions, build rapport, and determine the best course of action (after all, AMA has plenty of great instructors and perhaps Bud could recommend another teacher who would be even better for you!)
Thank you for interest, and may your musical journey be filled with whatever floats your boat!
