Multi-instrumentalist Jenn Thomas has spent the last two decades performing and teaching in classrooms, concert halls, bars, and street corners on three continents. Equally comfortable in the classical world and beyond, Jenn teaches violin, viola, cello, and string bass to students of all ages in a wide variety of styles. Ten years after completing her bachelor’s degree in classical cello performance, Jenn returned home to Lawrence to earn a master’s degree in music education from the University of Kansas, where she taught courses in strings and string pedagogy to prepare future music teachers for teaching orchestra. Jenn delights in teaching students of all levels, from three-year-old children to advanced orchestra students preparing auditions to retired adults who have always wanted to learn an instrument. Lessons with Jenn focus on developing creativity, producing beautiful sounds from the first lessons, and playing with physical ease and comfort. In addition to having extensive training in the Suzuki Method, Jenn is a very experienced improvisor, and might be the only fiddling cellist/singing bassist/blues violinist in Lawrence.
