Chad grew up in Lawrence and started his musical journey on the tuba and then electric guitar. He immersed himself in the vibrant local music scene, playing rock n roll and attending many all-ages shows at the Bottleneck. In high school, he picked up the banjo sitting in the corner of his favorite teacher’s room and was immediately intrigued. This intrigue quickly became obsession when, like so many banjo players, he discovered the work of Earl Scruggs and instantly fell in love. He spent countless hours learning the fundamentals of 3-finger style banjo. After graduating from Lawrence High School and the University of Kansas, Chad dove head first into the Midwest bluegrass scene, playing in various bands and touring all over the middle of the country. His appetite for learning more banjo has never abated, and is constantly searching for the next Irish reel, the next classical banjo minstrel tune, or yet another renaissance lute piece to devour. These days, Chad travels the country with his wife, seeking new adventure and remotely cheering on his Jayhawks, Royals and Chiefs.
