Americana Music Academy is happy to offer group ensemble learning. No matter your age, ability, experience or musical preferences, we can find a group ensemble to suit your needs. In the past we have had Youth Ensembles exploring pop, rock and jazz as well as group lessons in all of our most popular instruments, including guitar, mandolin, fiddle and more!

Winter 2025 class Offerings
Youth Rock Ensemble (upper middle school through high school): Every Other Tuesday, 6-7 PM (4 sessions: 1/14, 1/28, 2/4, 2/18)
Instructors: Joe Armetta and Brandon Jones
Students will get hands-on experience as members of a rock band with personalized coaching from AMA instructors. Some experience on guitar, bass, keyboard, voice, or percussion is necessary. Class culminates in a live local performance.

Beginning Guitar Class (adults and youth 14+): Thursdays, 6:30-7:15 PM PM (6 week course, 1/16 – 2/20)
Instructor: Joe Armetta
Learn the basics of acoustic guitar playing in an encouraging atmosphere and develop a strong foundation for recreational playing. Bring your own instrument, or borrow a guitar from our in-house lending library for the duration of the six-week class.

Basics of Music Theory (teens and adults): Thursdays, 7:00-8:00 PM (4-week course, 1/16 – 2/6)
Instructor: Ven Bergdall
This four week course is intended for teens and adults with some instrumental or singing experience, and will be customized to cover the music theory concepts that YOU most want to learn about. Topics may include reading and writing music notation, rhythm, scales, modes, chords, musical form, and the natural harmonic series.

Intro to Vocal Sound Healing (adults): Wednesdays, 7:30-8:30 PM (6-week course, 1/8 – 2/12)
Instructor: Ven Bergdall
Throughout history and across cultures, humans have accessed the power of the voice to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. In this 6 week workshop series, we will explore some of the ancient and modern practices of vocal sound healing. Choose your favorites to create your own individual practice, and enjoy the rich resonance of sounding together in community. No previous musical training is necessary to enjoy the benefits of this group!

Intro to Recording and Production (teens and adults): Saturdays, 10:00-11:00 AM (4 week course, 1/11 – 2/1)
Instructor: Brandon Jones
Students will learn fundamental skills needed to record and produce their own songs in a wide variety of genres including rock, pop, hip-hop, and more. From equipment selection and setup to mixing and mastering, all stages of the recording process will be covered. No recording experience is necessary.

How do I sign up for lessons?
There are three simple ways to get more information about signing up for classes with Americana Music Academy

How much do lessons cost?
Private lessons cost $30 per 30-minute session, or $120 per month. If you're a college student, inquire about our college student discount! We also award scholarships, which are open to any student, on six-month cycles.
Where do lessons take place?
We offer in-person lessons at our schoolhouse at 1419 Massachusetts St, Lawrence KS 66044. We also have several instructors who continue to offer remote / virtual lessons using the videoconferencing software of your choice (Zoom, Google Meet, Facetime, etc.)
What protocols are in place to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus?
We work diligently with our board of directors and local public health authorities to develop practices to ensure the safety of our teachers and students. We are offering both virtual and in-person lesson options at this time, and teachers establish their own mask policies at this time.
What instruments does Americana teach?

Do you provide live sound options for corporate events, weddings and private shows?
