Joe’s journey into music began at a young age, and his enthusiasm for the mandolin was ignited when he first heard the sounds of the instrument played by artists like David Grisman, Jethro Burns, Sam Bush, and Tim O’Brien. Joe was the 1999 and 2023 Kansas State mandolin championship winner, the 2000 Rockygrass mandolin competition winner, and the 2012 Kansas State miscellaneous stringed instrument competition winner, playing the octave mandolin.
